It feels truly rewarding to wrap up this final post for my year in review, as if I’m closing the book on the chapters written in 2024. Some were incredibly challenging, some were filled with triumph, and others brought about a good kind of terrifying!
What I’m about to share still feels surreal, but it’s real. I can actually type these words. As I mentioned, 2024 has been a year of immersing myself in my artwork and exploring where it could lead SAA as a brand. Well, it has taken me to my dream job—I now have full collections of not just fabric but also wallpaper!
I’m so fortunate to have partnered with an amazing printer based in the USA, who prints our designs on fabric primarily sourced in the US. Their sustainable printing methods are top-notch, and their commitment to customer service, particularly their turnaround time, is unmatched. You can read more about Little Cocalico here; they explain their business better than I ever could!
If I could go back and tell my college self, who was studying relentlessly for art history exams while juggling two jobs—one at a newspaper and the other at Walmart—that I would become a mother of three and a designer of textiles and wallpaper... I would SCREAM! But right now, I can’t really scream since Lily is napping! It hasn’t fully sunk in yet. I mentioned to a good friend recently that I fear the moment it does, I might stop working as hard!
However, that’s unlikely because with each chapter I write for SAA, I fall more in love with my work. There was a time when I struggled with it, but I ensured we never exceeded our means in a way that prevented me from scaling back, regrouping, and figuring out how to move forward in an inspired manner while being present with my children and working from home.
Thank you all for cheering me on along the way. We have faced many challenges as a family and as a business, and I have grown tremendously this past year as a mother. I aim to continue showing up in a way that inspires you, whether through our upcycles or my textile designs. I love what I do and couldn’t devote as much time to it without your support. I will always be grateful to each of you in our community—you mean the world to me.
