Letting Go of the Pressure

Back to the heart of it all and finding joy in creating again.

Since moving to my new Instagram account (I haven’t mentioned it to you guys yet, but it’s true!), a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

For so long, I was stuck in a cycle - chasing views, fighting algorithm changes, and pouring hours into content that barely reached the people who actually wanted to see it. I knew something had to shift, but I didn’t realize how freeing it would feel to finally start fresh.

I am only one person. I run a small (but successful!) business. And I no longer want to chase numbers, optics, or performance metrics that don’t actually matter to me.

When I zoom out and really look at what I’m building - a community of kind people, thoughtful customers, meaningful orders, downloads, and kind messages - it becomes clear: I don’t need thousands of likes or millions of views to have a lasting impact.

Virality is not the goal.

The pressure to go “big” online has only ever led to burnout, and honestly, it distracts from what I love most about this business — making beautiful things, connecting with others, and sharing the pieces of our life that feel joyful and true.

This new chapter feels like a return to the good old days of Sweet As April. Back when I used to pop on stories just because I was excited about a bonnet I made. Back when I created for the joy of it — not for the numbers.

And that’s exactly what I want to get back to.

Here’s what I’m working on right now:

  • Course outlines – I’m laying the foundation for something I’ve dreamed about for years: teaching what I know. From digital floral design to pattern making and beyond, I am finally clear enough to bring these ideas to life.

  • Vlogs – I’ve started filming simple behind-the-scenes videos, capturing both the creativity and the chaos of home life. I just uploaded my first one, and it feels like little time capsules, and I can’t wait to share more of them.

  • A podcast – It’s happening! A cozy, honest show about motherhood, creativity, and running a small business with a big heart. It’s launching in early 2026, and I’ve never been more excited to step behind the mic.

  • Family time – Going for walks with the kids. Time in the garden. Therapy appointments. Homeschool lessons. Slower dinners. Long mornings. These are the things that matter most right now.

  • Mental health breaks – I’m protecting my peace. That means stepping away when I need to, and building a business that supports life — not the other way around.

I don’t know what this next season will look like on paper - if I’ll gain hundreds of new followers or deepen the connections with the ones who are already here. But I do know that I’ll be creating with joy again.

And that’s enough.

If you’ve made your way over to my new Instagram account already, thank you. Your encouragement and presence mean more than you know. And if you’re new and just finding me, welcome.

We’re doing things a little slower - and a little more soulfully - over here. And I’m so glad you’re part of it.

With love and bonnets,
Carrie

I fell in love with watercolors when my son Elliot was born. That was over 10 years ago & since then I have picked up a paintbrush numerous times which has now morphed into an Apple Pencil. Along with SAA I am a surface designer for other brands as well as our own line of merchandise. This blog is a place for me to share every stroke of my "brush" & let you know what's up & coming
